*MIST FLEDGLINGS
GETTING MARKED When a human is chosen to be marked by Achlys they will not be ordinary fledglings, they will be Children of the Mist, or as they are more commonly spoken of as mist fledglings. When a mist fledgling is marked, it is very different from when a normal fledgling is marked. Black mist appears from nowhere. As strange as this all might be, the mist will in fact feel comforting to the human even if it did frighten them to begin with. The mist then rolls slowly up from the human’s feet, where it started, until it reaches their head and then, a whispering voice will say
“ Achlys has chosen thee, eternal darkness beckons. Fear not child, you are her own You must join your brothers and sisters at the house of night. ”
The mist will then slowly disappear and leave the human now marked. However, their mark is different from normal fledglings, their mark is a black circle, which is already filled in, and it seems to sparkle ever so slightly. Their mark represents a new moon, as Achlys is eternal darkness and a new moon is when the moon is at its most covered. The mist fledglings will also suffer from the stinging forehead and gain the same coughing that regular fledglings do as, mist fledglings still need to be near vampyres as well.
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES At first, the mist fledglings do not appear any different from their human appearance – except for their marks of course - as it is in the space of a week that the physical changes kick in. And then, they look shockingly different. Achlys designed them to be far more frightening than regular vampyres or fledglings which make the changes far more understandable.
It begins on their second day of being a mist fledgling where their eyes darken. For example, someone with pale blue eyes would then have very dark blue eyes. If someone already had dark eyes, they would still darken but they would be less obvious than those who had a pale eye color. Then about half way through the week their skin begins to pale, not to a sickly white color but to a soft color that seems totally unnatural, their skin will have reached the correct color by the end of the week. Along with their skin, small imperfections begin to be fixed, like a slightly crooked nose would straighten out however, these changes are so slight that they do go unnoticed. And, finally, their canine teeth grow a sharper point. They are not fangs although; they are well on their way to being them. Also, like normal fledglings, mist fledglings grow stronger and their hair and fingernails will grow at a faster rate as well. After all of their primary changes they are in fact more attractive, the way Achlys had wanted. Why would she have wanted this? Because she feels that her fledglings are more important and more powerful, and appearance is a perfect way to show this off. Although, even though they will have been made more attractive it does not necessarily mean they will be more attractive than everyone.
REJECTING THE CHANGE ]Rejecting the change as a mist fledgling is brought on by the very same things as what brings it about with the regular fledglings and also, when they begin to reject the change it is very much the same situation – their lifeblood begins to pour out of their ears, nose, eyes and mouth. Although the strange black mist that appeared when they were marked will also be rolling out as well as their blood. It then lingers in the air for a few moment and slowly disappears.
RITUALS Having been Marked by Achlys it is only natural that the mist fledglings participate in their own special ritual, seeing as they serve another goddess. Like crescent fledglings, the mist fledglings have constructed their own group that is similar to the Dark Daughters and Sons. Their group, however, is called The Night Children. ALL mist fledglings are apart of this group and all mist fledglings must participate in it's rituals and other activities. Within the group there is an elected council of several students (five to be exact) who each represent the darker elements: Mist, sun, blood, moon and night.
True to their Mark, each ritual of The Night Children occurs the night of every new moon. For them it represents new beginnings, it is a night of great spiritual power during which the veil between their spirits and their goddess is extremely thin and they are allowed a sort of closeness to her, like they all become one unit, they become one with the mist.
Before entering the sacred ground on which their rituals are performed, all mist fledglings must have their spirits and bodies cleansed with an odorless ointment that will be placed within the outline of their Marks by a fellow mist fledgling. Once inside all of those not on the council are to make a large, but tight circle around where the council members will be. At the beginning of each of these rituals a chosen male consort will stand beside the leader of the group (the one who will be representing Mist) and on the cue of his music (he'll play a different tune each time on his choice of instrument, likely a flute) the two will begin to move in unison around their respective sides of the circle. The leader will dance to his music all the way to the center, while the consort plays his instrument and keeps in perfect step on the other side of the circle. It signifies the perfect and whole joining of the lady and her consort. Once the two reach the center he is to step back and close the single remaining opening of the circle.
After joining the others on the council, the leader shall set fire to a pyre of assorted herbs with spiritual/psychic attributes. Once the fire begins burning an acidic green, the leader shall then open the circle with a greeting to her fellow fledglings followed by saying a personal bit to/about Achlys. Afterwards she will take a jewel encrusted dagger and go first to the Northern point of the circle -- Night -- and call it into the circle, then make a small incision on his/her ring finger and let a single drop of blood fall into the fire. The dagger is wiped with a black cloth and next she will go East to sun, then South to blood and West to moon, repeating the process of calling in the elements and taking a drop of blood for the fire. Once the council has called all the elements into play and offered their blood, the leader will take golden goblet filled with burning herbs and the dagger around the entire circle -- while speaking more words to the fledglings and their goddess -- so that the remaining fledglings make pay their blood sacrifice to Achlys.
Lastly, the leader will make her way back to the center of the council members and call her element -- Mist -- into the circle and offer her blood. At that point a purple ring will link each member of the council, forming a perfect inner circle, and a darker purple ring will link the mist fledglings forming the outer circle. Then a brief sermon is given by the leader, at which time all of the mist fledglings will experience a sort of spiritual uplifting, as though their spirits have left their bodies and are dancing freely in the air above them, together as one. Their eyes become starry with a strange gleam over them, and their physical bodies merely sway together, left vacant for the time being. This is their way of offering their spirits to their goddess, Achlys.
Once the leader has finished speaking the other fledglings regain consciousness and their spirits return to their bodies, leaving them feeling light and airy with an odd, warm feeling as though Achyls or the mist is still with them. The circle is then closed, with the elements being thanked and allowed to leave in counter-clockwise order. The leader speaks the words: "We are The Night Children, we are the power, we are the change! In Achyls name, blessed be. Merry meet, merry part, until we merry meet again.", and the ritual is over and the festivities (food, chitter chatter, etc) are allowed to begin.
Elements: Night (North), Sun (East), Blood (South), Moon (West) and Mist. Council: TBA. Consort: TBD prior to rituals. Attire: Velvet black, hooded cloaks with thick purple rope linked around the wrists and hanging loosely over the shoulders.
*Please note that there will be tryouts for which mist fledglings are allowed to represent the elements during the Night Children's rituals. Females as well as males are welcomed and encouraged to apply when the time arrives.
EXTRAS Children of the mist fledglings all have quite a high endurance and they heal quite quickly. Also, they cannot stand sunlight and it will kill them in a matter of minutes. It is not anything dramatic like burning, it does not even appear to be doing anything When they are asleep during the day they look almost dead. If they happened to be faced with the situation where they were near sunlight, their body would not physically allow them to step into it.
All of the mist fledglings seem to have developed an exceptional ability to play 'mind games' or tricks on humans and fledglings alike, although vampyres are more unsusceptible to it. The cats at the house of night, have all taken to avoiding - or hissing at - the Mist fledglings as they seem to loathe them greatly. The fledglings have no real care for the cats as they are in fact chosen by snakes instead. And finally, mist fledglings have a strong dislike of human religions and it seems to be etched in their newly changed DNA. They hate being in a place of human religion and it weakens them greatly.
