*FLEDGLINGS
GETTING MARKED For a human to turn into a fledgling they will have to be marked by a tracker (a tracker being a mysterious cloaked figure who appears ' almost dead '). The tracker will touch their forehead and speak these words
" Night has chosen thee; thy death will be thy birth. Night calls to thee; harken to her sweet voice, Your destiny awaits you at the house of night. "
Once they have done that, a crescent moon will appear on the human's forehead and they will begin to feel rather sick. This is because fledglings have to be around vampyres otherwise they will begin to reject the change. Straight after being marked, the fledgling will have a stinging forehead, from their mark, and will most likely gain a cough until they reach the house of night.
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES There is not that great a difference from fledgling’s appearances from when they were human, except of course for the new addition of their mark. However, most will notice that their facial features seem to more prominent and it makes them appear more beautiful than before. Also, with fledglings – and vampyres – it is very noticeable that almost everyone has very long hair; this is because their hair and fingernails grow abnormally fast. Their fingernails are also very strong and can cut through flesh and fabric for that matter, easily. Fingernails are not the only things that grow stronger, a fledgling will find that their entire body seems to be stronger and that also increases with the house of nights strict diet.
REJECTING THE CHANGE Rejecting the change can be brought about by three things, first of all, it is well known that if a fledgling begins to slack (not eating the proper diet, putting no effort into school or exercising) that their body will begin to reject the change. It also happens when a fledgling is away from a vampyre for an extended period of time. And, finally, the change can just happen, for no apparent reason. When it happens like that, it tends to take a larger blow on the community as it comes as more of a surprise.
When a fledgling rejects the change it is a very unpleasant thing. Their lifeblood begins to pour from their mouth, eyes, nose, and ears and they die in a matter of minutes. There is no way to stop a fledgling from rejecting the change, even if you did catch it at an early stage. If a fledglings dies, the school simply has to get over it quickly. It seems rather harsh but, with the possibility of death lingering constantly it is necessary to move on.
