She loves teaching. worstmemory: At first, becoming Marked. She hated to leave her parents, as she was very attached to them when she was young, but she grew out of it as soon as she felt welcomed. overallhistory: Syrenia, born with the name Violet, which she'd never thought fit her, had a fairly good childhood. Her father was often in and out of prison, but that certainly didn't stop her from loving him. Her mother was a bookkeeper (otherwise known as librarian) and was often reading to Syrenia. Her father was a Christian, but he didn't force religion on others. Her mother had no clue what she believed in, and neither did Syrenia as she grew up. She had a basic childhood, though, and her mother took good care of her, and so did her father when he'd take 'breaks' from prison.
When Syrenia was a freshman in high school, her father began to abuse heroin(e?). Syrenia was up in her room when she heard an odd noise that sounded suspiciously like snoring, but when she plodded down the stairs, she found her father unconscious, and called her mother, who was at work at the time, before calling for an ambulance. Thankfully, her father was okay, but he descended back into prison.
He'd been in prison before for stupid little things like that, and Syrenia had even gone to one of his programs with him. It seemed to make no difference, though...no matter how much programs tried to teach him. Once he got out, he continued to go through little in-and-out of prison periods, which he still does, for things ranging from more drug abuse to robbing convenient stores. Syrenia lost hope for him changing. (Alrighty, the dad with the drugs part actually came from my own life, and it's hard to remember some of it. xD Sorry!)
The rest of her years in high school went alright. She was picked on some, as many kids are in school, but she didn't let it bother her. Basically, she tried to keep her head down and get through the four years. It was her first day of her junior year when she was Marked.
Syrenia was Marked while walking to school on her first day, and immediately returned home to her mother, who was the one to bring her to the House of Night and explain to her father that his daughter had been Marked. Her father was surprised, and angered a bit at the news, simply because they were taking his daughter away. Her mother was very accepting, and visits Syrenia whenever possible.
She was displeased with the new school at first, hating having to leave her parents, but she soon grew out of it as she began to feel more welcomed and convinced herself she would always have visits. She gave herself a new name along with her new life, Syrenia, after the Sirens mentioned in mythology. She'd always been very interested in it when she was in school. She viewed them as very powerful.
Her third former year was iffy. She didn't like the idea of leaving her parents in the first place, and simply refused to like the new school at first. Soon, though, she made a friend called Isabel, who was a shy girl, but made her feel very welcomed.
Her fourth former year was much better than the first. Syrenia finally felt at home at the House of Night, and even made some new friends in her courses, but none as close as Isabel. Her fifth former year was rather terrible for her. Isabel rejected the change while they were in Vampyre Sociology, and Syrenia felt out of place after that. She managed to get through it at the end of the year, though, after she convinced herself that Isabel was being watched over by Nyx.
Her last year, her sixth former year, was the year Syrenia realized that she wanted to teach Poetry at the House of Night. It'd always been a hobby of hers, but the way her professor taught it sparked her interest more than ever.
She survived the change, her mark growing into a beautiful mask of intricate swirls that branched down her face. Syrenia is very proud of the marks.
Syrenia now teaches Poetry at the House of Night, indicating that she is also the poet Laureate.

*PENDING Hey there, Angela! Lovely app so far, but there are a few things that I think need a little revision. The biggest thing is that you say that she's the Poet Laureate. In the books they mentioned that Blake having that title was unusual, not only because he was a man, but because he was so young (twenty-five, he was the youngest PL in that universe). Syrenia is only twenty-one. And that actually may not be an issue depending on what the other admins think, but the Poet Laureate is a distinct title and the vampyre who recieves it has to be selected by the Council of Vampyres, I believe. So basically, I just want to know if you got the okay before adding it into your app. Because it's alright for any vampyre to be a poetry professor at a House of Night, but it doesn't automatically make them the Poet Laureate, that takes a lot more than just dabbling in poetry. You have to really have a knack for it, and blahblah I'm rambling. You get the point.
The next thing is really small, in the history you say that her mother is a bookkeeper. Do you mean librarian? Because I think a bookkeeper deals with business transactions, records, etc. It could mean both though, shrug.
Another thing mentioned in the history that caught my eye was that her father began abusing an illegal substance. Since it isn't her that was doing it I guess it isn't that important, but drug abuse isn't a small issue and it tends to affect not only the person taking them, but those that care about him/her. Did they get help for him, try to get him into rehab for his addiction, or was he just thrown in jail for a bit, released and off the stuff? I love/hate reading and writing the history portion of character apps, so when little things like that are mentioned I like to see at least some detail around that event.
When you're typing paragraphs (like in the history section), hit enter twice so that there's space between the blocks of text. It makes it easier to read and looks neater. Some people don't by mistake or just out of habit, and it makes things look jumbled and confusing, in my opinion.
And lastly, but not so important either, habits. Everyone has one or two. Nail biting, swinging your feet, pacing, talking to yourself when trying to figure something out, lip biting, head scratching, knuckle cracking, etc. Add in one or two quirky little things, they don't have to be anything too bizarre, normal works too.

Right, as far as the poet laureate thing goes, I was just planning on making the poetry professor the poet laureate automatically, because it sort of just made sense. But, seeing as in the books they did say it was odd for someone so young to be the poet laureate like Blake, so I'm going to have to agree with kye on this one because I never looked at your app Angela so I didn't realise that Syrenia was so young. Perhaps Syrenia could just be the poetry professor, sorry for the whole confusion Angela! TASHA ♥

Sorry for all this posting! ^^; But after Tasha and I talked about it, we've decided to let you keep Poet Laureate. BUT, we only ask that you make her a bit older. Over twenty-five but under thirty so that you don't have to push it too much. Sound good? Besides that, just look over the other things that I mentioned before and you're good to go. [=
