DYLAN CHRISTOPHER GRACE
seventeen, male, mist fledgling (fourth)
[/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - -
BASICS
NAME? "I was born as Dylan Christopher Chamberlain, but once I got to the House of Night, I decided to take the last name of the woman that used to be my nanny -- Clarissa Grace. She was more of a mother to me and my little brother and sister than our actual mother ever was. So just between me and them, I changed their last names too -- that isn't official though."
BIRTH DATE? "I'm a Taurus, born on May eleventh, year is unimportant, I think."
AFFINITY? "Nah, I'm not anything too special -- at least, not that I know of. Some people think that Achlys gifted me with extraordinary strength and fighting skills. I'm sorry to disappoint the gossipers, but my ability to lay a f--k-r out comes naturally; I came out of the womb kicking ass."
APPEARANCE
Face && Hair Dylan has a strong bone structure and a straight, but cute button-like nose. Splattered across the bridge of his nose are light freckles that make their way beneath his eyes and onto his cheeks. At a second look they take away from the imposing, dangerous demeanor he has at a first, quick glance. His lips are nice, rough and on too many occasions the bottom one might be split. He has a very adorable smile, it's wide, warm and friendly and gains long, deep dimples when teeth are shown with it. For the most part, his teeth are straight, nearly perfect and white. Like the other mist fledglings, his canines are sharper than they should be, very fang-like. And his right incisor is slightly chipped, courtesy of some guy's fist during a fight years ago.
His eyes are the color of warm honey, luminous and darkened after the change so that they look dangerous but beautiful at the same time. They're framed by dark boyish lashes, the same color as the streaks of darkness just above both his eyes. His hair is thick, naturally a dark chestnut, and usually worn in a short, wavy, slightly curly style. The only work that he puts into it is warm water, Axe and the occasional blow-dryer that's forced on him. Otherwise it's left in whatever disarray him running his hands through it causes. On the bright side it always smells pleasant.
Body && Clothes The boy is one of those naturally muscular guys that look like they can kick your ass with a flick of their wrist. But don't be fooled, he is far from being a muscle head -- in other words, he isn't all brawn and no brain. Anyway, he has nice, broad shoulders and chest, and thick biceps. His legs are long and fit, and his abdomen is tight and hard as a rock, with the an ironically cute navel settled into it. He reaches about 6'2" and has a purely athletic body that he stuffs with food daily but works out every night before bed to keep in shape. He has large, basket ball player's hands, but prefers to clench them into fists as oppose to dunking balls through a hoop.
Being someone who has money, one would expect him to dress expensively. And the truth is he does dress rather fashionably for someone who's likely to get bloodstains and rips in his clothes (but he doesn't care, his family can afford new ones. It leaves some to believe that he splurges every now and then on expensive pieces that he doesn't really care for, out of spite.) He sticks to Levi's and JCrew fitted jeans, button-downs, vests, shirts that look plain, but entirely too cool and quirky (they either have some sort of nice graphic on them, or words, or both) and can't be found everywhere, and unusual, but nice sneakers, shoes and fashionably boyish boots. The few accessories he wears are: a black G-Shock watch, a chain around his neck holding two silver dog tags and a cloth-like bracelet with dark, wooden beads encircling his wrist (made for him by Daria). In a few words, his style would likely be Euro meets skater with a touch of Asian.
Noticeable Features Unsurprisingly there's a dark circular mark at the center of his forehead, representing the new moon and marking him as one of Achlys own. He has the usual pale, but glowing skin that's practically perfect, the sharper than average teeth and the unusually dark but lovely eyes. Despite having his scars cleared up after being marked, he has of course gained new ones since he continues to be a fighter. It's difficult to pinpoint a few special ones, seeing as he has a new bruise nearly every day.
PERSONALITY
What are my favorite... MOVIES? "My all time favorite would have to be Fight Club, which, if you've seen the movie, I'll elaborate on no further. But it's followed by the Oceans 11 movies, Hot Fuzz, From Dusk 'till Dawn, the James Bond movies and Grandma's Boy (If I ever wanted to get high -- which I won't -- I'd sure as hell be smoking with Dante)."
BOOKS? "Alright, so my guilty pleasure is the Harry Potter series. If I weren't already on my way to becoming a vampyre, I'd probably opt for being a kick ass wizard. Anyway, I also like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Of Mice and Men, and The Da'Vinci Code.
GAMES? "I'm a gamer in my spare time, Final Fantasy (7&8) have got to be one of the best gaming series. Tekken, Call of Duty and Halo are cool too."
Six Random Likes - "If I could I'd probably eat strawberry sundaes all day. Strawberries alone are great, but mixed with ice cream? Goddess, they're fantastic."
- "I don't just wear my shades to look cool, I like them for when I should be awake but am actually sleeping. Or for when I'm pretending to listen to someone but my mind is actually somewhere else entirely."
- "I think accents are sexy, Brittish ones mostly. But a girl with an accent really catches my attention."
- "I know I seem like the sorta guy that probably rocks out to some loud angry music or something. But actually, I like indie and old/new rock, not any of that screamo BS. I can shout like a jackass too, that doesn't make me a singer."
- "Horror movies always make me laugh. Especially trilogies -- you've made it to part three and you're still not carrying a gun or some kind of weapon with you?"
- "I know I can't go there during the day anymore, but I love the beach. The sand between my toes, the sun (before my Change) on my skin and the ocean and sky stretching on forever."
Six Random Dislikes - "This is more like a secret...but insects kinda creep me out. What, with their huge bug eyes and creepy, crawling crap. Butterflies are the worst, they lull you into a false sense of security with their pretty wings -- but up close they're just as ugly and weird as the rest of them. Tell anyone about this and I'll kick your ass."
- "Okay, so this is another secret. I don't mind rain so much, but thunderstorms are horrible; not only do they cut your power out sometimes...but the lightning and the thunder catch me way off guard and I don't like it one bit."
- "I usually find it cute when a girl has little charms and junk on her phone, but lately all those phone charms just look like a concussion waiting to happen. Oh, and I hate key chains too, they get in the way of unlocking things."
- "After reading so many to my little brother and sister way back, I've grown sick of fairytales and their falsely happy endings. By the way, a kiss won't wake you up after you've bitten a poison apple. You're dead. Next time don't take shit from ugly, old hags."
- "Another thing I really hate are those tiny bed pillows; I can never understand why someone would need like ten pillows on one bed. What the fuck? Just go to sleep."
- "I hate, hate, HATE it when a girl wears too much make-up. It isn't attractive at all, not the raccoon eyes or the silly bright ass clown eye shadow. I prefer more natural looks, where the girl doesn't have to work too hard because she's already beautiful without all that gunk on her face."
Hobbies - Snowboarding: "When living in NYC, a few of my friends and I would travel to the Poconos on weekends during the winter. It's technically more like a ski resort, but it has a lot of snowy, mountainous terrain. It was where I first learned how to ski and snowboard, though I've always preferred the latter more. It reminded me of when I used to skateboard...just without wheels...and on snow. Anyway, I love snowboarding, I love the cool temperatures and I love the tricks."
- Fighting: "I've been fighting since I was younger, hell, it landed my ass in detention plenty of times back in elementary and middle school. I love the thrill of fighting and the feeling I get when I sink my fist into another guy's jaw. It's a good release for that temper that people claim I have (I don't see it), and it's not like I'll ever purposely try to kill a guy. Things may get out of hand sometimes, but never that out of hand. It's like a sport for me, only I'm not on a team and I don't get paid. Oh, and it's a great way to get my lady friends to nurse me back to health."
- Cooking: "This isn't known by many people, but I've been cooking and creating my own recipes since my childhood. I first learned from our family chef, and spent many days in the kitchen with him. I seriously love a good home cooked meal, but I love cooking for my friends and family too. While most of the other fledglings at the House of Night want to Change and become actors, models, singers and whatnot...well, I want to be a chef and own my own restaurant. The name of it is still in the making, but I'm sure I'd pretty damn good at it."
Quirks Being the fighter that he is, he often cracks his knuckles and neck, even when he isn't about to engage in a fight. He has the nasty habit of always showing up around his friends with a new bruise somewhere and instead of visiting the infirmary, he sweetly asks one of his lady friends to fix him up. When he's thinking or can't make a decision, he'll pace back and forth across the length of whatever room he may be in. He licks his right canine absentmindedly, and lastly he'll always rub the back of his neck then look down right before he's about to tell some bizarre lie. Oh, I nearly forgot, if you haven't noticed, the boy's a bit of a potty mouth.
Overall competitive | violent | temperamental | stubborn | sweet | joker | fun-loving | awful liar | blunt | cold
To start with, Dylan isn’t solely the big, bad dangerous fighter who’d rather punch someone in the jaw than talk things out (that’s only a portion of who he is). On the contrary, if you asked someone who’s really close to him they’ll tell you just how much of a big fluffy goofball he really is. His sister refers to him as a teddy bear, not only because of his appearance, but because of his personality. The boy is a real sweetheart and he has a soft spot for children (particularly Daria and Julian). They are truly the two most important people in his life, they bring out that well hidden gentleness within him. When he’s with them it’s the only time that he’s completely vulnerable and liable to do whatever they ask of him -- they’re his major weakness. As a child he was always the caring and attentive big brother, and even separated from them he still is. Often he can be caught on the phone with them, or sending them mail before they take it upon themselves to ransack the HoN and hunt him down. He wouldn’t put it past them.
Around his friends he’s a completely different person than he is with those that are unlucky enough to not be on his good side. Smiling and laughing comes easily to him, he’s almost always in a carefree and laidback mood with them. The change in him might actually surprise some. He’s a complete joker around his friends and wants nothing more than to kick back and have fun. He’s the sort to make sexual jokes when he sees fit; never anything too crude or disrespectful, unless it’s just the guys, then he may as well have no filter. He really loves to have a good time with them, but of course he has his down moments. At those times he may not share his inner thoughts or problems with all of them, but he has his select few friends that he feels he can open up about anything to.
At times he can be upsettingly blunt, though it’s usually reserved for when he’s dealing with those he isn’t well acquainted with. When it comes to his friends and siblings he’s a horrible liar, simply because it’s really hard for him to lie to them. When he tries to it’s painfully obvious that he is, and it ends up being cute rather than upsetting most of the time -- especially since he’ll likely tell the truth ten seconds later. His conscience can’t handle lying to or hurting those that are close to him (there’s that and the fact that they’d know he’s lying, so why bother?).
When it comes to other people, Dylan is about as standoffish as they come. He doesn’t seem all that interested in making new friends and is quite content with the group he currently has. However, some new ones manage to slip through from time to time. Like most of the mist fledglings, he’s a naturally manipulative person. But unlike some of the others, he rarely puts his talents to use unless he feels the need. There’s no point in pretending if he isn’t certain that the end result will be pleasing and in his favor. To tell the truth, he’d much rather get what he wants with his fists -- violence may not always be the answer, but it’s his middle name. Although he’s quite intelligent both book-smarts and street-smarts wise, he’d likely be labeled “The Muscle” in his group of friends. He’s always prepared to defend and protect those that are important to him, whenever the need arises.
If it isn’t already obvious Dylan is a very competitive person, no matter what he won’t go down without a fight. He loves the thrill of fighting, sees it as a sport, and more importantly, he loves ending up the victor. That isn’t to say that he never loses, he’s had his fair share of losses and still does. But he’s a firm believer in that “dust yourself off and try again” quote. He has a bit of a temper, which adds to his drive for fighting, and is liable to explode on someone at any moment if the wrong button is pushed.

Overall
- - - The Beginning - - - Dylan had the typical childhood one might have when one parent is too busy running their own business and traveling around the world on business-related trips, while the other is a self-absorbed woman too concerned with partying and cheating on her husband with pool boys and neighbors every chance she gets. As you can imagine, that didn’t leave much room for raising their three children -- each three to four years apart. At home he and his younger siblings were expected to play the role of the perfect children with the perfect parents living the perfect, ostentatious life. Whenever his mother threw dinner parties they were to be quiet, polite and well behaved little children, it was what everyone expected of them after all. It didn’t matter that none of it was true.
The children had a nanny that couldn’t always be there for them, but always treated them as if they were her own. Even still, at a young age Dylan had learned to fend for himself and care for his younger siblings at the same time. Whenever Clarissa was away, he would read them tales from their storybooks the same way she did, he’d tuck them in at night and play with them even if he was tired. The time he didn’t spend with them, he was busy in the kitchen with the family’s chef, learning his way around the kitchen and how to make certain dishes. It was there that he began creating the sort of recipes that could only spawn from a child’s imagination; they’d been positively awful in the beginning, but as he got older they got better and less all over the place.
At school he was a decent student, as far as academics went, but he was the sort that always landed himself in detention for getting into fights and arguments with the other children. Was it his fault? Not always, but he’d admit to it when it was. A lot of the time he’d purposely initiate a fight with kids his age or older because they were picking on Julian. And Dylan would be damned if he let someone go around bullying his younger brother and not do anything about it. The teachers and the kids were crazy if they thought he’d let shit like that slide. Most days he would go home with a bloody lip, a bruised eye or some aching muscles, Jocelyn would merely shake her head at him, as if mortified to have such a problem child. But Clarissa would clean him up and give him a motherly scolding, but at the same time she always spoke with a certain warmth and understanding. The truth of the matter was that despite his practical reasoning, part of him felt how ignored and insignificant he was at home and sought out a release for those feelings through physical battles. Not only did the constant fighting lift some of the weight off of his shoulders, but with his fist crashing into another’s guy’s face he felt recognized. He was recognized, and the more fights he got into as he got older, the more he was feared by any who weren’t close to him.
On multiple occasions Dylan had been expelled from his schools and forced to transfer to new ones. It was difficult to keep a single group of friends that way, but he’d manage to hang on to a few throughout all of the school changes. Although his behavior and all the fighting worried Clarissa to no end, the boy couldn’t help himself. He was competitive, and fighting had become more of a sport to him than something thuggish delinquents did because they had nothing else better to do with their lives. He enjoyed winning and he loved the sensation he got in the heat of a fight. The downside was of course how Clarissa felt and how Daria and Julian would worry whenever he arrived home with a new wound, but the big bonus was how much his mother fretted over him ruining the family image. So much so that in his teen years, with her husband’s permission, she packed up the family and hired help and moved them to Oklahoma.
It was…different to say the least. But in actuality nothing had changed in their lives, everything was exactly the same just in a new location. Oh, and Dylan being the new, bizarre toy at his new school actually made a few more friends than he might have simply transferring to a new school back in Brooklyn. But all the same, there were those that wanted to be the big douche bags on campus and pick on Julian on bother him because he was new. Dylan had never been one to back down from a confrontation, and as such he’d faced them all head on. There wasn’t really anything he cared about in his new city, except his brother, sister, Clarissa and the chef (who had, with Clarissa’s suggestion, started asking for his assistance in the kitchen a lot more than usual. A boy that kept his hands busy with food couldn’t possibly get into too many unnecessary fights). And when he wasn’t busy pounding someone’s face in or vice versa, or having a pot forced in his hands, he stuck to his usual tradition of playing with and reading to his younger brother and sister. Being a fighter hadn’t turned him as completely careless and reckless as he seemed to be.
- - - Getting Marked - - - It was Julian’s eleventh birthday, and Dylan was incredibly late in picking up his present. It wasn’t because he was forgetful or just didn’t care -- quite the opposite, in fact. For the past week he’d felt like hell, his body ached like a six wheeler had run it over, he kept getting weird chills and a bad, phlegmy cough kept racking his body to the point that he felt like his ribs were cracking. The family doctor had assured him that a few days of bed rest and daily doses of some prescribed medicine (that tasted like ass and nasty gym socks soaked in dish water; the particularly nasty medicine was always saved for the worse case scenarios, that was his opinion anyway) should fix him right up in no time. But Dylan, much to the woman who was now his little sister’s nanny’s dismay, had disobeyed the doctor’s orders without thought and snuck off to his car to make what was supposed to be a quick trip to the mall.
Okay, so driving in his condition wasn’t ideal, nor was it the most intelligent thing to do. But his weary mind hadn’t thought to ask a friend to drive him -- hell, they’d happily have gone and cut school and gotten the gift for him on their own had he only asked them to. It was too late for that now, the gift was now safely wrapped in silver and blue in the backseat. The new Star Wars game and two custom made light sabers (one in sapphire for Julian, the other in a silvery-black for Dylan himself), the extra one was for those times when Julian was bound to beg and plead with Dylan to play with him. The little boy was a serious, but adorable Star Wars geek, but that was alright -- Daria was still in her pretty, pretty princess phase. Dylan was sure his brother would love it, and to make things better, he’d left a special cake recipe for their chef that he’d come up with himself some years ago. Usually, he would make the birthday cakes himself -- except the ones for his birthday, of course --, but who really wanted someone sneezing and coughing into their cake mix?
Dylan was making his way back home when it happened. The temperature in his car suddenly dropped a few noticeable degrees despite his on/off chills, and a strange, dark fog surrounded his car. He squinted slightly, trying to see the road that seemed to have magically vanished. Then the weird, blackish purple mist slithered it’s way inside his car, surreal caresses touching his skin here and there. Either he was losing his mind, or the medications had finally gotten to him. And then it spoke.
“Achlys has chosen thee, eternal darkness beckons. Fear not child, you are her own You must join your brothers and sisters at the house of night.”
There was a starburst of pain across his eyes that had him shutting them immediately, and a searing hot pain in his forehead. It made him lose control of the wheel and sent him veering off the main road. The car skidded, spun out of control, and screeched horribly before slamming hood first into the thick trunk of a large tree. For a moment he stayed, hunched over in the car, head resting on his forearm that was braced against the steering wheel. Of course the air bags hadn’t released, God, he’d kill the guy that had recently worked on his BMW Z4. If this cold and crash didn’t get to him before he could get his hands around the guy’s neck of course. Before he could move he hacked out a nasty cough that he was sure would produce a lung, or both. When he sat up, one hand was at his chest while the other scrambled to turn the now broken and dangling mirror towards his face. He stared in complete silence at his reflection, not at the cut lip (he was used to minor bruises here and there), but at his forehead. He’d been expecting a deep gash, a bloody cut or something for all the pain he was feeling, but instead of any of that there was a single dark circle at the center of his forehead. Only slightly confused now, beginning to catch on he pressed two fingers to his new marking. It was different than what he’d seen on other kids, actually he’d never seen this Mark before, but the last words he’d heard before the mist disappeared made it quite clear what had happened to him. He was on his way to becoming a vampyre, and yet, even without the fear of rejecting the Change just yet, he couldn’t help but feel like something was out to kill him.
When he finally got his BMW (which was now badly scratched and dented, the deep blue paint scraped in a few places) to work again and made his way home, he received the typical fuss from the family members that cared, and the shocked, open-mouthed response he’d been expecting from his mother. Daria and Julian didn’t want him to go, of course, they didn’t want him to die either. And his mother was surprisingly reluctant to let him go (of course, she‘d called his father, who was away on business, first and he‘d pretty much told her to calm down and the send the boy where he had to go), though he assumed it was because that meant she’d actually have to pay a little more attention to her kids with him gone. After all, when Clarissa was away, she couldn’t very well leave two underage children alone. And to tell the truth, Dylan hated leaving his little brother and sister just as much as they hated him having to go. That night when he left he knew he’d miss them terribly, but expected daily phone calls from them thanks to the new phone Julian would be getting.
- - - Present Day - - -
Dylan has been at the House of Night for a little over a year now, and all seems well. He's passing his classes, getting into trouble here and there, and hoping to complete the Change and become a well-known chef. At least, those are his plans for now.
